Summer Learning Labs kick-off year four with record participation & impact in five Indiana cities
The Mind Trust and the Indiana Department of Education have launched the fourth year of Summer Learning Labs (SLL), a five-week program featuring over 90 sites and enrolling nearly 9,000 students. Launched in 2021 to combat COVID-19 learning loss, Indy Summer Learning Labs (ISLL) now includes 52 sites serving 5,300 students, offering free and low-cost high-quality education and enrichment activities. Brandon Brown, CEO of The Mind Trust, stated, “Our goal is to provide students with valuable learning experiences and growth opportunities that will benefit them long after the summer ends.” The program’s success has led to its expansion through the Expanding What Works grant, benefiting over 3,000 students statewide in cities like Gary, Salem, South Bend, and Wabash. Data collection and pre- and post-tests have shown significant learning gains, with a 23-point increase in English/Language Arts and a 22-point increase in math scores in 2023.
