Newark, Camden launch contest to encourage high school seniors to apply for federal financial aid

Newark Mayor Ras Baraka and Camden Mayor Vic Carstarphen are launching the first-ever “FAFSA Challenge” to encourage high school seniors to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The challenge, initiated by the Camden Education Fund last year and expanded to Newark, aims to unlock financial aid opportunities for college and accredited trade schools. Both mayors see education as transformative and believe the challenge will empower students with accessible financial aid and academic support. The challenge, supported by prize money from both organizations, will award $70,000 to schools in each city with the highest completion rates. The initiative underscores their commitment to providing educational opportunities for all students and building a brighter future.
