Newark charter school parent calls for Governor Phil Murphy to support school choice
Parent Jasmine Morrison describes how public school choice has empowered her family, and calls on Governor Murphy to end the present moratorium on charter school growth in New Jersey. Morrison, a mother of two boys, pointed to high ratings for charters by both parents–some 93 percent say they feel positively about their child’s school–and Newark voters overall, where 62 percent say public charters are an important part of the education landscape.
“As an advocate for more high-performing schools, I’m never far removed from the uncertainty that plagues families like mine in the fight for educational justice,” Morrison wrote. “The present moratorium on charter growth in New Jersey is frightening for families that need charter flexibility to implement standards that work and who are desperate to get their child out of a failing school.”
