‘Reinvesting in the Brilliance in Our Backyard’: Young Denver Alumni Push for Change

When TeRay Esquibel was 16, he found the power of his voice. It’s part of what inspired him a decade later to co-found Ednium: The Alumni Collective. Ednium organizes young Denver Public Schools alumni to advocate for the resources and educational offerings that tomorrow’s graduates will need to succeed.

The group’s members are between 17 and 30 years old and are primarily people of color. Through leadership training and advocacy for educational equity, the group is creating a platform for specific policy objectives and programmatic improvements in local schools. Their early objectives include adding ethnic studies and financial literacy courses to the required curriculum for all Denver Public Schools graduates.
